Company History
The origins of Medousa Clothing Company Ltd can be traced
as back as 1955, when Mr Liassis Liassi opened a shop that specialized in all kinds of
dressmaking such as ready-made dresses, shirts, swimwear and suits. A professional tailor,
Mr Liassi entered the profession as soon as he finished the elementary school by working
as an apprentice in a tailor's shop. In 1957, not satisfied with sewing only suits, he
furthered his horizons by attending seminars in England, where he learned the craft of
tailoring overcoats and suits.
By 1958, Mr Liassi established the well-known company, EEE.
In 1964, the Company's line of quality fashionwear gave Mr Liassi the opportunity to
expand further by setting up his own factory with 25 employees. Soon afterwards, the
growing demand for the company's line necessitated the purchase of his own premises at
Trikomo.
The prosperity of the company however did not last long.
The 1974 Turkish invasion, inflicted a heavy blow to the company. Following the invasion,
Mr Liassi managed to re-establish the company in Larnaca, under the same trade name, EEE.
In January 1977, a new factory is established and the name
of the company is changed from EEE to Medousa Clothing Company Ltd. In 1980, the Company
was able to buy some land and erect its own four-level factory. This new development,
necessitated the re-definition of the Company's strategic orientations and focused in the
production of swimwear; a market thought to be of great potentials for the Cyprus market.
Since then, Medousa Clothing Company Ltd is the No1 swimwear manufacturing company in
Cyprus and the first in sales.
A great part in the Company's success has been the work of
Mr Christakis Evangelou. As an export manager of the business, Mr Evangelou managed to
secure well-established agencies from England, Belgium, Germany, the Czech Republic and
Greece.
